MARCO came to the United States in May of 2005 from Germany and was purchased by Manchester Police Department from Master Trainer (NAPWDA) John Brannon on March 15th.
K-9 Marco and his handler, Officer Boyle attended the 12 week, North American Police Working Dog Association certification course in New London, Connecticut. N.A.P.W.D.A.’s course was conducted by NAPWDA Master Trainer, Sgt Bill Nott of the New London Police Department and Trainer Michael Ravenelle (Ledyard Police Department). There, they received their patrol certification, which includes tracking, article recovery, building and area searches, and criminal apprehension.
Marco also attended a 9 week narcotic certification course held by trainer Michael Ravenelle with his K-9 partners Dibbs and Vegas.
Like are all of Manchester Police department's K-9 teams, all dogs are dual purpose. This means that Marco is both a patrol K-9 and a narcotics K-9. Like all the MPD's K-9 Units, when he is not working, Marco stays with officer Boyle and his growing family.
