We offer a variety of programs designed specifically for our senior citizens.  Senior Citizens can serve as eyes and ears for the police department. Many seniors are retired and are in a position to make observations that could be helpful to the police department. We provide information on ways seniors can serve as valuable witnesses and reporters for matters of crime prevention and the ability to provide information which may assist in solving cases.

 

 

 

9-1-1 Cell Phone Program

The Manchester Police Explorers accept “retired” cell phones donated through the police department.  Explorers clear out any preset numbers, charge the phones and prepare them for distribution. The phones are distributed to senior citizens, free of charge, to be used for emergencies. The phones are not connected to any particular carrier and will not make any other outgoing calls, however, when dialing “9-1-1” you will be Connecticut to a 9-1-1 dispatcher. It is helpful when you able to provide information, such as your location and a brief description of your emergency. If you are unable to speak, but able to dial “9-1-1,” help will still be on the way.

Manchester TRIAD

TRIAD is a partnership between three groups:

1. Senior Citizens

2. Law Enforcement

3. Business Community

 

Working together, the major purpose of TRIAD is to develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for older community members. Activities center on both preventive and victim/witness assistance aspects.

 

TRIAD is a national program, now in its organizational phase in Manchester. Each TRIAD is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors called a S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Law Enforcers working Together) Council.

Believe it or not, there are many people out there eager to steal your good name or pull a fast one over on you. NEVER give out any personal or financial information to a person who calls you with a convincing story about why you should provide it. If you are unsure because you are doing business with the company referred to by the caller, hang up and call the phone number you have on file for that particular business.
