Eulogy for Pat

Pat Reeves began his law enforcement career in 1977 with the Wethersfield Police Department where he served for two years before joining the Manchester Police Department in 1979. He rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Sergeant to Lieutenant and finally to the rank of Captain. Pat received his bachelors Degree from Charter Oak College and his Masters Degree from Western New England College. He was a founding member of the Manchester Police Activities League and he sat on the advisory board of the Blue Angels Foundation. Pat also received awards for life saving, several meritorious service awards, among many other accolades from the police department and much praise from the community.

We at the PD will always remember Pats infectious smile, jovial laugh, and his many hairdos over the years. We will also miss that person you could count on, the leader whose door was always open to us, and always leave you with “lets play it by ear.” Many times you have to search for words of kindness to describe a person but not with Pat. In fondly speaking of Pat the words are not just kind but true to describe this extraordinary person.

The greatest measure of a person is the life that they live, Pat left it all on the table.

A loving father, devoted husband, involved in the community, tremendous leader and a true friend. Our time on earth is not the complete story; we must wait until heaven for the rest of the chapter. God uses his word, people, and circumstances to mold us. God’s word provides the truth we need to grow and God’s people provide the support needed to grow. Pat was a mentor of this, providing what ever was asked of him on a daily basis. He demonstrated wisdom and understanding in his leadership roles. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. He was and always will be remembered for his fairness, kindness, genuine compassion, and always trying to do the right thing. One of the greatest testaments to Pats life is that all of us will take something from Pat and we will apply it in our own way in our own life. For the people who did know him and the people who did not, well we will “Just play it by Ear”
